The Government of Mauritius has extended the Government Wage Assistance Scheme (GWAS) and the Self-Employed Assistance Scheme (SEAS) for the month of April 2021. The Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) has issued a communique dated 17 April 2021 regarding the payment of the financial assistance under GWAS and SEAS.

Employers and self-employed individuals operating in the tourism sector in Mauritius and Rodrigues will obtain financial assistance under GWAS and SEAS for the month of April 2021, in full.
Under GWAS, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) operating in Mauritius are eligible for a full month of financial assistance for April 2021.
Self-employed individuals operating in Mauritius will obtain a full month of financial assistance for April 2021 under SEAS.
Under GWAS, SMEs will obtain financial assistance equivalent to one month’s basic salary up to a maximum of Rs 25,375 per employee, for all employees drawing a monthly basic salary of up to Rs 50,375.
Under SEAS, self-employed individuals will obtain financial assistance of Rs 5,287.
All applications under GWAS and SEAS should be made electronically on the MRA website.
Self-employed individuals are not required to apply for SEAS if they have previously made an application for the period of March 2020 to March 2021. Self-employed individuals, who have previously applied for SEAS and are not eligible for the financial allowance of Rs 5,287 for the month of April 2021, are requested by the MRA to withdraw their application on the MRA website.
The MRA will effect the payment of financial assistance under GWAS and SEAS directly on the bank account of eligible beneficiaries.
It is worth noting that eligible employers and self-employed individuals will obtain financial assistance under GWAS and SEAS even if they hold a Work Access Permit (WAP).
