Work Permit

In addition, we help you to obtain a health clearance from the Ministry of Health and Wellness and a fire clearance from the Mauritius Fire and Rescue Services. The clearances are required by the Work Permit Unit of the Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations, Employment and Training to process the application for work permit.
Occupation Permit
The residence permit and work permit has been combined into the Occupation Permit (OP) allowing you to work and live in Mauritius.
Who is eligible for an Occupation Permit in Mauritius?
1.Investor
- The investor should make an initial investment of USD 50,000 or its equivalent in freely convertible currency; or
- The investor acquires a business with a net asset value of USD 50,000 or its equivalent in freely convertible currency and the cumulative turnover of the business is at least MUR 12 million during the 3 years preceding the request for OP; or
- The investor should make an initial investment of USD 25,000 or its equivalent in freely convertible currency in the bank account of the company under which the application for OP will be made and an investment of USD 25,000 in high tech machines and equipment; or
- The investor should submit an innovative project to the Economic Development Board (EDB). No minimum investment is required in such a case; or
- The investor should conduct research and development (R&D) in qualifying sectors and should register with an incubator with the Mauritius Research and Innovation Council.
2.Professional
The basic salary of the Professional should be at least MUR 60,000 under a contract of employment. A Professional in the ICT Sector having a basic salary exceeding MUR 30,000 can apply for an OP.
3.Self-Employed
A self-employed should make an initial investment of USD 35,000 or its equivalent in freely convertible foreign currency.
Residence Permit
Residence Permit
A retired non-citizen aged 50 years or above and his dependents may apply for a residence permit in Mauritius.
Dependents include spouse, common law partner, children under the age of 24, and parents.
The retired non-citizen should make an initial transfer of USD 1,500 or its equivalent in freely convertible currency to his bank account in Mauritius. He/she should make a monthly transfer of at least USD 1,500 or an aggregate amount of at least USD 18,000 annually during the validity of the residence permit.
The residence permit is valid for 10 years.
A retired non-citizen with a valid residence permit may invest or hold shares in a business in Mauritius. However, he should neither manage the business nor be employed or derive any salary from the business.
Permanent Residence Permit
A person having an Occupation Permit or Residence Permit as a retired non-citizen may apply for a Permanent Residence Permit.
The application is subject to the following conditions:
- The Investor has derived a gross income of at least MUR 15 million yearly or has made an aggregate turnover of MUR 45 million in the 3 years preceding the application.
- The Professional has derived a monthly salary of at least MUR 150,000 during the 3 years preceding the application.
- The Self-Employed has derived business income of at least MUR 3 million yearly for the 3 years immediately preceding the application.
- The retired non-citizen has held a residence permit for at least 3 years and has transferred at least USD 54,000 or its equivalent in freely convertible foreign currency during the 3 years preceding the application.
The duration of the Permanent Residence Permit is 20 years.
